Heather Mangieri is an award-winning expert in food and nutrition and a board certified specialist in sports dietetics and has completed the Commission on Dietetic Registration’s (CDR) Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management. Her advanced and specialty training in these area’s gives her the unique opportunity to work with athletes of all levels and training abilities. She has helped hundreds of athletes reach their training goals by helping them identify their barriers to success and then guiding them to overcome them.
For the past three years, Heather has served as a national media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and she’s been quoted in hundreds of local and national publications, including Fitness Magazine, Cosmopolitan, More Magazine, Woman’s Running Magazine, ELLE, Woman’s Health, Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times and USA Today. She’s also been featured on Self.com, MSN.com, ESPNW and Foxnews.com, among others, and she regularly appears on KDKA TV-2.
In 2008, Heather was recognized as Pennsylvania’s Young Dietitian of the Year.In 2012, she was the recipient of the Keystone award, being recognized for her leadership in demonstrating outstanding professional standards to serve and advance the aims of Pennsylvania dietitians.
Heather has other roles – Educator, Entrepreneur, and Mom
After graduating from The Pennsylvania State University where Heather studied nutrition, she worked at Gold’s Gym as a group fitness instructor and ran a 12 week nutrition program. Heather’s work experience also includes food management, clinical work (in hospitals, nursing homes & long-term acute care settings), and outpatient counseling. While focusing on medical nutrition therapy, she went on to earn a master’s degree from University of Pittsburgh in Wellness and Human Performance. She then accepted a part-time position in the Department of Exercise Science at Chatham University and was an instructor at The University of Pittsburgh, Department for Sports Medicine and Nutrition.
In 2008 Heather founded Nutrition CheckUp, a nutrition consulting practice in Pittsburgh, which specializes in sports nutrition, weight management and disordered eating. She provides nutritional guidance and expertise to casual exercisers and competitive athletes so they can maximize their training efforts to reach their fitness goals. For the past 5 years she has served as a media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Additionally, she serves on the leadership team for the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists Dietetic Practice Group and is active with the Pennsylvania Dietetic Association and The Pittsburgh Dietetic Association.
Heather enjoys a very active & fulfilling life in Pittsburgh with her three children. As the parent of boys with special needs and early health and developmental disorders, she knows firsthand how challenging it can be to stay positive, healthy and active while managing a family. Cooking with her kids and teaching them about the power of food has always been a priority. Heather is always up for an adventure & enjoys running, Crossfit, traveling and new experiences.
