Award Winning Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist
Heather is an award-winning expert in food and nutrition, is board certified in sports dietetics and has completed the Commission on Dietetic Registration’s (CDR) Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management. Her advanced and specialty training in these area’s gives her the unique opportunity to work with consumers and athletes of all levels and training abilities.
Heather works one-on-one with clients at her nutrition practice, Nutrition CheckUp. Her areas of expertise include sports nutriton, weight management and disordered eating. For the past seven years, she has served as a national media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, translating nutrition science into practical messages that consumers can easily understand. She’s looked to as a trusted source of nutrition information by the media and the public and has been quoted in hundreds of local and national publications. She is the author of Fueling Young Athletes (Human Kinetics, 2017) and is a nationally recognized professional and motivational speaker. In 2012, Heather was the recipient of the Keystone award, being recognized for her leadership in demonstrating outstanding professional standards to serve and advance the aims of Pennsylvania dietitians. In 2008, she was selected as Pennsylvania’s Young Dietitian of the Year.

Heather earned her BS in nutrition science from The Pennsylvania State University and received her master’s degree in Wellness and Human Performance from University of Pittsburgh. Prior to starting her private practice, she was a part-time instructor at Chatham University, department of exercise science and was an instructor at The University of Pittsburgh, Department for Sports Medicine and Nutrition.
Heather is currently the nutrition consultant for the Carnegie Mellon University Athletic Department and Student Health Services.
Heather enjoys a very active & fulfilling life in Pittsburgh with her three children. As the parent of boys with special needs and early health and developmental disorders, she knows firsthand how challenging it can be to stay positive, healthy and active while managing a family. She enjoys traveling, running, crossfit and new adventures.
